Governors

Appointed Governors

 Mr A Watton (Chair)

I have been a Governor at South Avenue for over 10 years and for much of that time as Chair of Governors. I have had three children go through the school and therefore know what parents expect. I believe children should receive an education that allows them the opportunity to grow and learn at the maximum rate possible taking into account all of their individual needs. If it also happens to be great fun along the way … even better!

Mr D Burt

I am a retired banker and have been a Governor at the Junior School for nearly 8 years. Following my retirement I wanted to put something back into the community and my role in helping monitor the school’s financial position has achieved that. As we go into a new era of ‘One School’ I look forward to the new challenges we face as a Governing Body.

Mr T Ottaway

All 4 of my children attended the South Avenue schools, they enjoyed their time there and progressed well.  I was also a pupil at the Infant School (many, many years ago – before the Junior School was built!!) and it will always have a special place in my heart. I have been a Governor for a number of years and look forward to helping the ‘new’ South Avenue Primary School working with the Fulston Manor Academies Trust to maintain and improve the education that your children deserve.

Mr P Crouch

I have lived in Sittingbourne for 27 years and have two daughters, both of whom attended South Avenue Infant and Junior Schools.  I have served as a Governor for several years at both Infant and Junior Schools and now look forward to contributing to the success of the new primary school, under the guidance of the Fulston Manor Academies Trust.

Headteacher Governor

Miss S Fenn

I became Headteacher of South Avenue Primary School in September 2018.   I am passionate about providing every child with the best opportunities so that they can achieve to their fullest potential.  I have worked in education for over 25 years as a teacher, SENCo, Deputy and Headteacher.  I am very proud to lead such a hard-working and dedicated team of staff who go ‘above and beyond’ every day.  Our core values of collaboration, commitment, creativity, courage, community and challenge are at the heart of all that we do.

Staff Governors

Mrs P Gaston

I am currently working at South Avenue Primary School as a SEN Teaching Assistant in the Golden Curriculum and have been here since July 2013.  When I left school I qualified as a Biomedical Scientist working in Clinical Biochemistry in the NHS and worked in the laboratories for 10 years.  I then moved into the Pharmaceutical Industry where I initially worked in Sales and Marketing and was then a Project Manager for 5 years.  I have always been involved with children with SEN and following the birth of my son in 2001 I worked as a childminder and cared for several children with SEN.  I then supported two children in Early Years, worked at Meadowfields Special School and finally moved to South Avenue.  I am passionate about enabling all children to reach their full potential.

Mrs H Streatfield

I have worked within the Primary Education system for over 12 years as a teacher, Assistant Headteacher and in my current role as Deputy Headteacher.  I have taught and worked across the primary age range and am able to contribute and apply a wealth of information to the school to continually drive improvement in teaching and learning; ensuring that all pupils have access to the highest quality provision and are successful not only academically but socially and emotionally.

Parent Governors

Mrs T Thurston

I have lived in Sittingbourne for most of my life and joined the Governing Board as a Parent Governor in October 2016.   I hold a Master’s Degree in Information Science and work at the University of Kent as an Academic Liaison Librarian.  In my current role I teach information literacy skills, manage the library budget for my academic schools and help ensure that the library is used effectively by the students.  I strongly believe that education should support children to reach their potential and I hope as a Governor I can make a positive contribution to the school and our children’s education.

Mr J Righton

I have lived in Sittingbourne for 30 years and attended Fulston Manor Secondary School.  I have recently become a Parent Governor and have 2 children attending South Avenue Primary School.

I worked locally for over 10 years as an electrician before becoming an Electrical Site Manager in London.

I believe it is important for parents and the school to work together to achieve the very best from our children, and what better way to get involved than becoming a Parent Governor.
