The Golden Curriculum is part of our provision for children with special educational needs at South Avenue.
These children may have a statement (now called an Education Health Care Plan or EHCP) or be working at a significantly lower level than their peers. Mrs Gaston is our highly skilled SENCo assistant who supports the provision of our Golden Curriculum which is delivered daily by Mrs Young. With the support of class teachers and the SENCo the children are taught in a way that better meets their needs. The pace is slower, there are many opportunities for over learning, the approach is multi-sensory, dyscalculia and dyslexia support strategies can be incorporated into all aspects of teaching and learning and the children can feel more confident and make better progress in a small group environment. The learning can incorporate a child’s speech and language targets and specific targets set by specialist teachers. The holistic approach to learning, that includes focus on gross and fine motor skills, academic skills, learning and social skills is proven to support these children’s needs.
Children’s progress is tracked carefully through the adapted Learning Ladders assessment framework which often breaks down the national curriculum into smaller steps.
